The NYC Freaks is a community of live music fans formed in 2000. In the last couple of years, the Freaks have cultivated a philanthropic spirit, raising thousands of dollars through concerts, auctions and other endeavors with the goal to give back to the community that has provided so much joy to us. Along the way, we discovered that the existing safety net does not always completely cover those in need in our live music community. We realized we could be doing more to give back. In that spirit, the Freaks Action Network was born. The Freaks Action Network is the beginning stage of a philanthropic effort by the NYC Freaks. We are currently raising seed funds to form a 501(c)(3) so that we can soon provide assistance where it is needed. The Freaks Action Network uses the power of music to harness resources in our community and beyond. We share our strengths to provide tangible support to those in need – physically, financially, and spiritually – and make a positive difference in people’s lives.
One of the first activities of the Freaks Action Network was starting the Live Music Challenge. Started informally in 2017, over $11,000 was raised and donated to various charities in the first year by a small group dedicated to channeling their love for live music into positive change in their communities and beyond.
